Airsoft Holsters Canada: How to Choose the Right One for Your Setup

Airsoft Holsters Canada: How to Choose the Right One for Your Setup

|District Airsoft Blais

A holster is one of those pieces of gear that players underestimate until they've been burned by a bad one — a draw that snags under pressure, a retention that's either too loose or too stiff, or a mount that doesn't work with their chest rig. Getting it right upfront saves you from replacing it after your first serious game.

This guide breaks down what actually matters when choosing an airsoft holster in Canada, organized by pistol platform, with our current in-stock selection linked directly.

District Airsoft has been playing and running gear since 2012, and our store has been shipping holsters and tactical equipment across Canada since 2016. These are the options we actually stock and recommend — not a generic list.

What to Look for in an Airsoft Holster

Retention level. Holsters range from passive retention (friction only) to active retention with a locking mechanism you release on the draw. For CQB and fast-moving games, active retention keeps your sidearm secure when you're sprinting, crouching, or rolling. For static MilSim roles, passive retention is often fine and draws faster.

Mount type. Most holsters use one of three attachment systems: belt loop/paddle (fast to put on, less stable), MOLLE (attaches to chest rigs and plate carriers, very stable), or drop-leg (sits on the thigh, good clearance for chest rigs but bounces on long runs). Know your loadout before you buy.

Platform fit vs universal fit. A holster molded specifically for your pistol (Glock 17, P320, Hi-Capa, etc.) will always fit better and draw cleaner than a universal option. Universal holsters are convenient if you run multiple platforms, but you sacrifice some draw speed and retention precision.

Left vs right hand. Most holsters are right-hand dominant by default. If you draw left, confirm before ordering.

Universal and Multi-Platform Options

If you run multiple sidearms or aren't sure which specific holster fits your pistol, these are the options worth looking at:

Which Holster for Which Scenario

CQB / Indoor: Active retention is important here — you'll be moving fast, going prone, and potentially contact-distance with other players. A molded holster with a locking mechanism (Safariland SLS, Orpaz, Quantum Mechanics) is the right call. MOLLE or drop-leg mount depends on whether you're running a chest rig.

Outdoor / Woodland / MilSim: More flexibility here. Passive retention and a belt or MOLLE mount works well for most players. If you're running a chest rig, a MOLLE-compatible holster keeps everything tighter and less bouncy on long moves.

Speedsoft: High-draw-speed priority — look at drop-leg setups with minimal retention mechanism. The Amomax Per-Fit or open holster options are popular picks.

Multiple platforms: The CYTAC Mega-Fit or Amomax Per-Fit are worth the small trade-off in draw precision if you rotate sidearms.
