- The M40, renowned for its years of service with US Marines, began its life as a modified and classified version of the Remington M700 bolt-action rifle. Subsequently, the development of A1-style fiberglass stocks manufactured by McMillan took place. The M40A3 began development in the mid-1990s and entered service in 2001 during Operation Enduring Freedom. Throughout its years of use, the M40 has maintained a solid reputation for reliability and accuracy.
